## What Anneal Is

Anneal is a state-based intelligence layer that sits between users and any
AI model. It provides memory management, scoped context assembly, and
structured knowledge that persists across sessions, tools, and teams.
Unlike opaque "memory" features in ChatGPT, Claude Projects, or Cursor
rules, Anneal gives users full visibility and control over what the AI
knows, who it knows it for, and when that knowledge applies.

## Core Concepts

### State-Based Memory

Memory is not a transcript. It is structured state: who you are, what
you've told it, what you're working on, and what's happening around you.
These layers combine on every turn so the AI always has the right context.

### Scoped Facts

Every fact has a scope: User (personal), Team (shared), or Global
(organization-wide). Narrower scopes override broader ones automatically.

### Supersession

When you correct the AI, the old fact is replaced. Corrections stick;
outdated information does not come back.

### Deterministic Context Assembly

On every turn, the engine assembles context from all layers using scope
filtering and relevance ranking. The AI never sees restricted, expired,
or superseded content.
